Firm Practice Areas
helps people with cases in
Criminal Defense, Immigration & Personal Injury
Shorstein, Lasnetski, & Gihon (SLG Law) has attorneys dedicated to three very focused areas: criminal defense, immigration & personal injury. Our criminal defense attorneys are all partners and all former prosecutors. Our immigration attorneys include a former ICE deportation prosecutor. Our personal injury attorneys include a partner with almost 20 years of legal experience, with more than 10 years of experience in personal injury law. With SLG Law, one of our four law partners will personally handle your criminal, immigration or personal injury case.
At SLG Law, we will assess your legal situation, develop a strategy and keep you informed throughout the process. When you retain us, we are only a phone call away when you have a question. Personal service is important to us and our goal is to use our big firm experience to help you with your legal needs while providing small office care to ensure you are happy with our services.
SLG Law is proud to offer four former prosecutors with almost 100 years of legal experience. Harry Shorstein, is the former five term State Attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties. As the elected State Attorney, he was the head prosecutor supervising every other prosecutor in the circuit. Jeremy Lasnetski is a Florida Bar Board Certified Expert in criminal trial law. Paul Shorstein is a former head of the White Collar Crimes Division in Dekalb County, Georgia and is licensed in both Florida and Georgia. John Gihon is a former prosecutor with more than 14 years of experience. One of these experienced criminal trial lawyers will handle your criminal case personally.
When you retain us for your criminal case, we will meet with you to develop a relationship. We want to know everything we can about you to help in our defense. We will have a thorough consultation where we develop all of the facts and determine your goals. We will communicate, and if appropriate negotiate, with the prosecutor. We will go to court and represent you before the judge (oftentimes allowing your appearance to be waived so you don't have to appear). We will investigate the case, including talking to witnesses, taking depositions, and obtaining information beneficial to you. We will research legal issues and file legal motions where appropriate. We will consult with you on a regular basis about your options and what you can expect during the process. We will represent you during trial and all other proceedings in court.
At SLG Law, we will treat your criminal case like you are family.
SLG Law has two partners who practice immigration law. One, or both, of these partners will handle your immigration case personally. John Gihon, in our Altamonte Springs office, is a Florida Bar Board Certified Expert in Immigration and Nationality Law. He is a former Senior Attorney with ICE and has been featured on local and national news media. He is also a regular lecturer on immigration topics throughout the state. Jeremy Lasnetski, in our Jacksonville office, is the former Jacksonville Regional Vice Chair of the American Immigration Lawyer's Association, Northeast Florida Chapter and has also lectured on immigration topics. Both Jeremy and John handle immigration benefit cases, including, adjustment of status, fiance visas, naturalization, change of status, and much more.
Deportation cases - SLG Law handles deportation cases. As a former ICE prosecutor, John Gihon brings his experience and knowledge of the deportation system to your defense. No matter where you reside, if your deportation case is in the Orlando Immigration Court, SLG Law can help you.
Because we have two offices, one in Altamonte Springs, near the Orlando Immigration Court, and one in Jacksonville, near the Baker Detention Facility, SLG Law is perfect for any deportation case where the person is being detained in the Baker County Detention Facility. Most of these cases involve deportation based on a criminal conviction. We have a Florida Bar Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer (Jeremy Lasnetski) and a Florida Bar Board Certified Immigration and Nationality Lawyer (John Gihon) who will work to attack both the underlying criminal case and the deportation case. If you have a case involving deportation based on a criminal conviction, it is important to retain an attorney who has experience in both criminal law and immigration law. At SLG Law, we have two partners who are experienced in both.
When you retain SLG Law for your immigration case, we will draft all applications and petitions and collect all required documentation. We will explain the process to you before and during the process, so you understand everything that is happening. We will appear with you at interviews before USCIS and all court hearings before the immigration court.
At SLG Law, we will treat your immigration case like you are family.
SLG Law partner Paul Shorstein is our personal injury attorney who will personally handle your personal injury case. When you or a family member is injured or killed in an accident, it is important to have someone to talk to on a person-to-person basis, yet have an attorney with experience handling personal injury matters. SLG Law brings the perfect blend of big firm experience, with small office care. So many personal injury firms are run like a corporation with untenable case counts. When you hire SLG Law, your case will be handled personally by Paul Shorstein. Paul has been handling personal injury cases since 2005. Formerly with Pajcic & Pajcic, Paul has over a decade of experience dealing with insurance companies and litigating all types of personal injury cases.
When you retain SLG Law to handle your personal injury case, we will meet with you and listen to everything you have to say about the accident. We will assess the case and give you an honest evaluation about the strengths and weaknesses of the case. We will contact the insurance companies and advise you on how to talk to the insurance companies and when to talk to the insurance companies. We will negotiate with the insurance companies and if necessary file a lawsuit. We will represent you in trial if you and the insurance companies cannot agree to a settlement.
At SLG Law, we will treat your personal injury case like you are family.
